Sintering of Beryllium Oxide-Influence of Minor Additions on Densification and Microstructural Development

Abstract
The influence of 0.01 to 5 wt% additions of MgO, Ti02 and Fe20 3 on the sintering behaviour and grain development of beryllium oxide was studied at temperatures between 1100 and 1500C in vacuum and in air. Significant effect was noticed on the sintering behaviour and grain growth. Both densification and grain growth attained a maxima with MgO and Ti02 additions, the optimum value being around 1%. With Fe20 3 both the densification and grain growth seem to be directly related to the amount of additions.
