Abstract
Addition of the relatively small amount of lithium carbonate to boric oxide significantly accelarates decomposition of silicates and increases the solubility of the fused mass. Unlike lithium borate, the mixture does not appreciably corrode platinum and does not interfere with the flame-photometric determination of sodium and potassium.
