Abstract
An automation of production processes presents a multitude of interacting parameters and a more complex man-machine interfaces that play a vital role in the reliability of production processes. For a production process to be reliable, it should be able to produce defect free components that meet the acceptance tests specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. In this case study, conducted in a ceramic pipe manufacturing plant, the failure analysis during processing and testing phases is carried out. On the basis of this, a reliability model is proposed. Further, the tests for acceptance of lots (as specified in IS: 651-1980) are carried out on representative batches. With the data so generated the reliability of ceramic pipe production process is evaluated.
