It is a green or brownish green coloured mineral available throughout the world as a major constituent in maffic and ultra maffic rocks, but with varying compositions. Excellent physical, mechanical and then~~~ properties make this material important as slag cond1t1oner, refractory material, foundry sand, etc and also for a number of other applications like blasting sand, ballast and covering material for under water pipes and cables, etc.
