The effect of different variables on the ultimate apparent porosity of burnt refractory bricks
and the methods of controlling them are discussed.
Nature of raw materials, their pre-processing, size distribution, mixing, grading of the
green mix, methods of forming, shape and size of the green bricks, mode of setting, methods
and technique of firing, minor additions-all these influence the ultimate porosity of the burnt
bricks. Controlling the porosity, which gives an indication of the quality of the fired bricks,
necessitates control of each of those factors. |
