Abstract
Initially ceramic kilns were fired by coal, but present
trend is towards oil firing, due to its cleanliness, ease,
flexibility and other reasons, even in regions where coal
is comparatively cheaper. Oil firing of kilns because of
its flexibility enables the location of burners at various
positions and angles and the present communication
deals with various methods of oil firing of ceramic
kilns some of which are already in practice. The article
primarily deals with the application of oil firing in
medium sized rectangular shaped fixed bottom or shuttle
car type kilns.
