Abstract
A research and product development study relating to the processing of fly ash into a crystallized glass is described. Nucleation and crystallization of the initial glassy product were brought about by the incorporation of selected nucleating agents which were chemically compatible with fly ash. The paper describes the raw materials, fluxing agents, nucleating agents and characterization to establish the physical, mechanical and electrical properties. Properties of the developed material have been compared with the Russian Slag Sitall and commercial porcelain insulator.
