Refractory Practice in Large Size Blast Furnaces in England and Europe

Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increase in the productivity of the blast furnaces as a result of capital enlargement and operation intensification. It may be observed that all the newer installations of blast furnaces in Europe are of large capacity in the range 7-10,000 tpd. In this note, the trend of the refractory practice in lining these large capacity blast furnaces in UK and Europe has been reported. A typical blast furnace is shown in Fig. 1.
