| Creep characteristics under torsion at elevated temperatures
were studied for phosphate bonded alumina. The role of
additives like y-AI20 3, AICI3 and AI2(SOJ3 on the creep
rate have been evaluated vis-a-vis nature of bonding and
related characteristics. It was observed that y-AI20 8 did
not impart superior strength and rather caused a little
deterioration. However, AICI3 and AI2(SOJ8 in appropriate
proportions provided significant improvement in
strength, with respect to creep characteristics at 1350°C.
Thermal analysis and transverse breaking strength data
have been utilized in understanding the nature of the high
temperature reactions, and the results have been augmented
with x-ray analysis and electron micrographs.
The distribution of aluminium phosphate and the ratio
of AIP04/AI(PO,.}a are the main factors elucidating the
differences in high temperature strength. |
