| The effects of minor additions (3 and 5 wt %) of Ti02
and Fe20a on the sintering of alumina were studied at
various temperatures (1350°-l600°C) and times (up to
500 minutes). More than 95% of theoretical density was
achieved by alumina compacts containing 5% Ti02 at
1600°C. Densification in general was directly dependent,
among others, on the impurity content. From an analysis
of the shrinkage data and a consideration of relevant phase
diagrams, it was concluded that a solid-solid mechanism of
sintering was operative in the present experiments. |
