Abstract
INVESTIGATIONS on marine soils were undertaken to manufacture vitrified bricks, possessing low porosity and resistance to sea water action. Such bricks were required for armour blankets for stabilisation of shoal areas around the port, sealing breaches in navigational channel and in civil works, which generally show deterioration under marine atmosphere. Due to the presence of extraneous minerals, marine salts and organic matter in soil, bricks moulded cracked on drying, burst on firing and show short vitrification range.
