Abstract
AT Chunar, in district Mirzapur, U.P., the village potters have been making glazed red clay pottery for some generations. This Institute has been investigating improved bodies and glazes for Chunar potters to enable them to achieve improvements in their products. This paper deals with the study of Chunar raw materials, taken up with a view to developing improved body compositions having optimum mechanical strength. In subsequent communications development of suitable glazes for Chunar Pottery will be dealt with.
