Oil Firing of Refractories in Downdraft Kilns

Abstract
This paper deals with the advantages of Oil Firing of Refractory material in a conventional down draft kiln with a brief description of recent development in self proportioning type of oil burners. Experience gained in the conversion of an existing coal fired kiln to oil firing of silica bricks are summarised. The time-temperature curve achieved during the trials along with the oil consumption rates, heat utilization and economics of the process are briejy outlined.
