| Abstract |
| Six clay minerals from Assam and Meghalaya were investigated by X-ray dij:
fraction, differential thermal analysis, cation exchange capacity and chemical anaiysis.
Kaolinite was most abundant in the Mikir-Hills and Garo-Hills samples. Clays from
Khasi-Hills were found predominantly to be illite and mixture of kaolinite and illite.
Upper Assam clays were the mixture of kaolinite and muscovite. Quartz was the trace
impurity in the clays.
The changes that had taken place in kaolinite and illite at different temperatures
up to 1100°C were also studied. |
