| CERAMIC research in India is primarily
oriented towards utilisation of indigenous
raw materials and the technological processes
as practiced by or suited to our industry. Till
recent past, the industry was almost entirely
confined to producing the conventional items,
such as crockery, sanitaryware, insulators, fireclay
and basic refractories and the like. In
order to meet the needs of the existing industry,
a great deal of research effort had therefore
to be directed towards evaluation and
beneficiation of ceramic raw materials, substitution
of imported items and standardisation
and improvement in the quality of indigenous
items. With the rapid progress, now being made
in the field of electronics and nuclear technology
the need for researches on the preparation and
behaviour of special ceramic materials, has also
been felt. This is evidenced by the increasing
number of publication on these subjects during
the recent years. |
