Abstract
Creep characteristics under Torsion were studied on four types of commercial basic
bricks viz., magnesite, chrome-magnesite, magnesite-chrome andforsterite, at different
temperatures. Out of these chrome-magnesite and magnesite-chrome bricks show
decrease in strength between 1350°-l400°C, whereas magnesite brick suffers no such
loss till 1450°C. On the other hand,Jorsterite brick exhibits poor strength at a temperature
as low as 1200°C only. An attempt has been made to explain the factors that may
be responsible for the creep behaviour of the bricks with respect to their chemical composition
and microstructure.
