Abstract
A comparative study of imported and indigenous nozzles has been made. The laboratory tests indicated that over-all chemical compositions of the Indian nozzles are comparable to those of foreign nozzles. Their textural characteristics are such that Indian nozzles suffer very greatly from non uniformity. The study indicates that fireclay compositions for nozzles need not be highly refractory. It is .. however, desirable that alkalis be entirely avoided. The practice of using coarse grog particles of higher refractoriness in less refractory bonding clay should also as far as possible be avoided. The fabrication process must be such as to yield a dense product of uniform texture.
