Abstract
Four fire. bricks of commercial brand were examined jot their hot strength
and creep resistance by torsion method. While a good correlation appear.
to exist between the underload values and the torsional strength, no such
relation exists with the apparent porosity. On the other hand, texture of refractories
tends to influence their torsional strength inasmuch as that the coarse grain texture
without sufficient viscous matrix is detrimental to its strength. Torsional characteristics
of refractories in the range of 1200° to 1400°C indicate th£ difference in their quality
and performance characteristic.
