The difficulties in obtaining selected raw materials for the manufacture of high grade firebricks, high-alumina bricks and basic refractories have been discussed. The problems of calcination of fireclay and bauxite have been mentioned. It is stressed that the ceramic machinery manufacturers should pay more attention to refractory industry and start manufacturing parts of machineries and equipments used in this particular industry so that the need for spare parts etc. are met indigenously.
