Abstract
Four ball clays from Kerala were studied for their physical properties such 4s particle size distribution, plasticity, drying and firing shrinkage, green strength, colour and porosity at different temperatures, and P.C.E. value. The mineralogical composition and impurities were studied by the X-ray and D.T.A. methods. One clay fires to a comparatively whiter colour than the imported ball clay. It has been found to be satisfactory for the manufacture of electrical porcelain. These ball clays can be used in the ceramic industry either alone or after blending so as to get the desired property, thus saving valuable foreign exchange.
