Abstract |
Particle size distribution in two sedimentary clays, Pachegaon and
Chintrya/, and in two residual clays, Srirangapur and Shekhapur, were studied
by sieve analysis as well as by gravitational sedimentation. The results of
the sieve analysis indicated that 8.60, 12.20, 49.22 and 15.60% of the clays,
·respectively, were coarser than 300 mesh (B.S.S.). The coarser portion
contained free quartz, undecomposed rock and other mineral impurities. The
particle size distribution in the portion of clay finer than 300 mesh (B,S.S.)
was determined by the use of Andreasen-Borner Pipette. Size distribution
per cent in the four clays were respectively :-
42.72 to 10 microns :-43.8,
10 to 2 microns :-17.2,
2 to 0.5 microns :-13.7,
