Abstract
The firing properties of five Hyderabad clays were
studied after separating magnetic iron from them. About
one third of the total iron in Pachegaon and Kamthana
clays was removed. The separation of iron from Chintryal,
Shekapur and Srirangapur clays was negligible. The colour
on firing of Pachegaon clay was not improved but
Kamthana and Shekapur clays with a greater iron content
burned white. Kamthana and Shekapur clays did not
vitrify at 1400°C. The shrinkage of Kamthana clay at
1400°C was 22.6%. Pachegaon and Srirangapur clay~
bloated at about 1200°C while Chintryal clay virtrified at
1250°C without bloating.
