Abstract
Although the P. C. E. value of Kamthana clay is sufficiently high, that is con9 32 ( 1700° C) ; this clay alone cannot be used for making refractories as the pieces made out of the clay do not have enough mechanical strength and show low spalling resistance. Addition of Pachgaon clay is therefore recommended. The P. C. E. value of the mixtures containing 30-50% of f achgaon clay is 1640-1660° C. The spalling resistance for these mixtures is satisfactory. The use of calcined Kamthana clay is suggested as this would reduce the shrinkage and the resulting cracking of the pieces.
