Abstract
There is no standard method of determining the plasticity of clay, although se'iJeralmethods have been suggested by variout authors, Atterber'gs method for the determination of plasticity index may be considered to be the most convenient practice to know the degree of plasticity of clay and soil samples. The limits as determined by Aterberg are the liquid limit, plastic limit and plasticity-index. These methods are described in this paper. The values of limits for Agartala clay have been tabulated. The values correspond favourably with the standard plastic clay of Europe and America. The relation between the particle size and plastic-index has also been discussed. Pure clay separated from impurities shows a kigher value of the Atterberg plasticity-index.
