Abstract
1. .ALUIIJIUTE or Websterite (Al203. S03. 9H20) has beea found in small quantity in veins in the shale underlying the eoal seam at Chittidand (34°4:1' : 72°54') in the Jhelum district ~(Punjab). The mineral has a chalky appearance, but under ~he microscope it is seen to consist of small monoclinic crystals. Its hardness varies from 1 to 2 and its specific gravity is 1. 707, being rather high due to the presence of a small quantity of admixed iron oxide (Rec. Geol. Surv. Ind., 1897, 30, 110).
