although made of Fireclay of high Alumina content do not
give the same service as some of the bricks made from lotD
grade fireclay in some foreign countries. Service conditions
prenalent in a ladle has been cliscmsecl. Analysing the
condition•, it tDas considered that high 'After-Oontraction'
of the Indian Ladle bricks tDas the cause of the inferior serviC6
given by these. TtDo brands of bricks were specially made
tDith reduced 'After-Oontraction' and tried under actual
operating conditions. Laboratory and service test data on
the above ttDo bricks and the brand of brick ordinarily used
are given. From these it tDas apparent that the bricks tDith
lore 'After-Contraction' tDere superior to the commonly mea
brick. By lining ladles tDith these specially made brick, it
t.Das possible to take more than one and half times as many
casts as taken by ladles with ordinary bricks. Some of
