Abstract
An attempt to study the effect of solvents in the development of porous alumina from engineered boehmite xerogel has been made. Boehmite powder was dispersed at pH -3 to get a stable boehmite sol. The excess water was evaporated and the resultant gel was dried at 60°C to get a xerogel. The xerogel was refluxed using methanol, ethanol and isopropanol, washed and dried. The gel samples were characterized using TGA and FfiR. The results show more interaction of methanol with the gel matrix. The specific surface area and total pore volume of calcined samples are presented. The nitrogen adsorption studies of the samJlles calcined at two diiTerent temperatures are also presented and discussed.
