| Liquid phase sintering, in the temperature range of 1173-1273 K
for 1 h in air, of crystalline earth mud blended with calcia and
sodium hydroxide, shows strong adhesion of grains due to formation
ofintergranular silicate phase which renders it a white
ceramic composite. The tiles sintered at 1223 K for 1 h in air
show cold crushing strength (CCS) of 30 MPa. The sintered tiles
show density of 1.97 g.cm·3 and open porosity of 12.6%. They
are inert in boiling water and show high chemical stability. |
