Abstract
Properties of thermal barrier coating (TBC) prepared from dispersed Y -PSZ in a high temperature resistant aluminoborosilicate glassy phase in the system, RC-RO-Si01- Al103 (R = Ca, Mg, Ba & R = Na, K) have been studied. A coating composition by simple and cost effective vitreous enamelling technique has been applied on a stainless steel. substrate (AISI-310) and the results of characterisations, microstructures and propertieS of 3 wt% Y-PSZ dispersed in glass) matrix are reported in this paper. The results indicate that the thermal gradient of a TBC, having thickness of 750-800 microns, is in the range of 175°-l80°C when the coated surface is exposed to a temperature of 1000°C for half an hour. But a significant improvement of the gradient, viz. 650°-675°C is observed even with a long expo>sure of the coated surface to a temperature of 1000°C when a cooling system made by continuous now of compressed air is applied.
