Abstract
lhe various methods of preparation of readive alumina powders
(sinterable at 1823K) required for advanced ceramic
applications have been reviewed. The factors influencing the formation
of particles of controUed character-Nics have been summarized.
The variou.<; methods of preparing alumina powders 6ke
modified Bayer Process, dCCOillpOIIition of alum and sulphatr, free2e
drying, plasma evaporation and gas phase reactions, oontroUed
solution methods (6ke sol-gel, hoDDgeDoous precipitation a11d emulsion
technique de) have been hridly described. FmaUy, the result..
of the study carried out in our laboratory on preparation of reactive
alumina powders of controUed DDrphologies by the hom>genoous
predpitation-a-ystalli7ation tedmique are reportOO.
