Abstract
A process has been developed at theauthors laboratoryfor producing
2, 3 and 5 YPSZ powders by hydrothermal synthesis using basic
zirconium sulphate obtained from Indian zircon sand. The YPSZ
powders and sinters obtained therefrom were characterized for
chemical purity, particle size and morphology and the results are
described in this paper. The powders obtained werefincin character
and did not require milling. Further, the results of the studies on
sinterability and mechanical properties indicated maximum density
and hardness at as low a temperature as 1400°C.
