Abstract
Throughout the industrial world, the refractories market is governed by the requirements of the traditional heavy industries such as-iron and steel, cement and allied industries, non-ferrous including aluminium, chemical, petroleum and power, glass, ceramics, etc together with a multitude of other miscellaneous requirements. Of these, the iron and steel industry is by far the major consumer of refractories-particularly in well established areas such as Western Europe, Japan and the USA. In this review, the developments in the iron and steel industry in the next decade and their expected impact on the UK refractories industry and their suppliers have been discussed.
