Abstract
A spectrophotometric method has been developed for detennlnation or small amounts of lead In glass and some ceramic raw materials. The method Involves selective separation of lead with S.SS.x 10-5M dithizoneand7.5 x to-2M KCN at pH ... tO followed by elution or the complex with acetone and making It alkaline with 0.2 ml or 2.5M NH3 1n a total volume or 10 ml. The method obeys Beers law from 0.1 to 2.5 J.tg Pb.ml-1 at 500 nm. Correlation coeftlclent calculated from the linearity curve Is 0.99. Interferences due~ Cu(ll), Co(m, Ni (ll), Zn(ll), Cd(ll), Mn(lll) and Fe (II) have been eliminated automatically by using KCN. Effect of Fe(lll) could be eliminated by extraction with MIBK prior to the separation of lead. The developed method has been standardIzed against National Bureau of Standards opal glass sample (NBS 91). Standard deviation of the results has been round to be ±0.0021.
