Abstract
One end closed thoria-yttria solid electrolyte tubes have been fabricated by the slip casting technique. A systematic study of the influence of the process parameters on the characteristics of the final bodies has been carried out. Slips of Th02-10 mole % Y 20a were prepared; their fluidity and castability were studied as a function of concentration, pH and particle size. The bodies were sintered at zooooc and the physical properties like density and microstructure were evaluated. Slip cast bodies of bulk densities around 95% T.D. with relatively inhomogeneous but predominantly fine grained structure could be obtained by optimizing the process variables.
