Abstract
Aluminium occurs both as substitution of iron within the structures
of iron ore minerals, viz. hematite, goethite etc and in intergranular
minerals, occurring as gangue minerals like iron silicates. The characterization
(substitutional or intergranular) of aluminium is necessary
to optimize the cost of beneficiation and is successfully done by
powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Mossbauer spectroscopic
methods. The results of these methods as used for this purpose have
been discussed here with the effect of aluminium substitution for each
parameter.
