Abstract
Ceramic nuclear fuel fabrication is an important step in the production of cheap nuclear power. Sol-gel processes are used to produce ceramic fuel in the form of microspheres of controlled size and properties. This paper describes a complete flow sheet of internal gelation process, one of the prominent sol-gel routes for the production of high-density microspheres and pellets of fuel materials. Development of sol-gel process overcomes the problems associated with the fabrication of fuel materials having very high dose rates.
