Thermoanalytical Studies on Gypsum Dehydration

Abstract
There is no general agreement regarding the mechanism of gypsum dehydration. Different authors have come to different conclusions regarding the applicability of mathematical model relations as applicable to solid state decompositions. The paper presents the results of the thermoanalytical studies (non-isothermal) conducted with this problem in mind. The data have been analysed by the method of Satava (1971) and Coats and Redfurn (1964). The results as discussed suggest that gypsum dehydration follows the Avrami-Erofeev nucleation mechanism and obeys the model relation [-In (I- e<))ll2 = Kt.
