Abstract
An attempt has been made to show the usefulness of the instrument
developed at CGCRI for the purpose of assessing the drying rate of
ceramic wares under varied conditions of temperature, relative humidity
and electrolyte addition.
Two types of bodies, viz. (i) vitreous china and (ii) cordierite,
were slip cast and their drying rates were measured under varying
conditions. A relation between the dielectric loss, as measured by the
instrument, and the corresponding moisture content of the ceramic
article could be established. The results suggest that the instrument
can be utilized by the whiteware industry in understanding the
mechanism of drying to optimise the conditions to be maintained for
a particular ceramic ware.
